TOEFL IBT Athletic Excellence Grant

The TOEFL IBT Athletic Excellence Grant is designed to assist challenging high-performance student-athletes in achieving academic and athletic success through the awarding of a €5,000 scholarship to outstanding student-athletes who show a combination of athletic excellence and English language proficiency, the program will be used to help student-athletes from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa who are working towards achieving their athletic and academic goals.

The TOEFL program promotes values of honesty, transparency, and high standards, along with a comprehensive program mission to support individuals who are working hard to achieve their full potential. The TOEFL iBT Athletic Excellence Scholarship is designed to enhance its commitment to excellence by providing awards to outstanding young aspiring athletes who are dedicated to the highest standards of athletic and academic excellence.

The scholarship is intended for undergraduate student-athletes that have been successful in gaining acceptances and acceptance into an athletic program beginning between August 2023 and March 2024 at colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and selected universities in the European Union.

Eligibility Requirements

For the purpose of evaluating and challenging the proposals submitted, ETS Global will designate an evaluation committee to evaluate the applications and appropriate accompanying documentation to select the five grant recipients. The first step is to evaluate applications based on the applicant’s eligibility and the thoroughness of the required supporting documentation.

  • Up to 15 candidates will be chosen and interviewed online.
  • Must be a student-athlete that has successfully completed and been admitted to an academic OR athletic program beginning between August 2023 and March 2024;
  • Must be based in the EMEA countries;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Being admitted to the recognized sports team or sports program of the university or college to which the student is being granted acceptance;
  • A minimum overall TOEFL iBT score of 85;
  • Subscribe and follow the code of ethics for sports and the world anti-doping code;
  • Provide a completed and signed request for funding form accompanied by all the necessary documentation to support the request.

Application process

  • The student’s TOEFL iBT test score;
  • An official confirmation letter from a university or institution of higher learning stating that the applicant is or will be a member of the university or institution of higher learning’s athletic program and/or college team;
  • A cover letter in English explaining the purpose of the scholarship application;
  • A recommendation letter in English from a coach or trainer.
